Stress Can Cause a Lack of Sleep

Stress is the Most Common Cause of Lack of Sleep

Struggling to fall asleep at night? Chances are your lack of sleep is caused by too much stress. Thoughts racing through your mind are extremely counterproductive to a good night’s sleep. How can you fall asleep with you worrying about seemingly overwhelming work or study demands, personal relationships or the health of a loved one? Even things that we look forward to can cause stress: perhaps a first date or a long awaited holiday. Relaxation is integral for sleep and is it any wonder that stress is such a common cause of lack of sleep?

Solve this Lack of Sleep Cause through Routine

Do not despair – while stress is an often unavoidable part of daily lives, there are steps you can take to stop it from affecting your sleep. Make your bedroom a sanctuary from the issues of your life. It should be clean and free from clutter. Use it only for sleep and sex.  Do not do your work in your bedroom and particularly not in your bed. Video games, TVs and other distractions should be located elsewhere if possible.

Your brain is a creature of habit and the more you disassociate your bed from the rest of your life, the less likely your issues will cause a lack of sleep.

Activities to Reduce Stress in Your Life

There are a number of things that you can add to your routine to reduce lack of sleep caused by stress. Go for a gentle walk at night to clear your night. Reading a light, interesting book is a great way to escape from the troubles in your life. Visualise yourself in a relaxing situation while sitting in bed to take your mind of your issues or meditate during the day to help focus your mind.

There are a number of ways to potentially cure lack of sleep caused by stress – find what works for you.
